The wedding reception at Tom Colicchio restaurant

Jill and Mark wedding in Tom Colicchio’s restaurant

We have been taking pictures of newlyweds for many years, but we’re always amazed by our customers’ choices, especially when it comes to locations. All the couples we meet make their wedding spectacular in their own special way: some people hold the reception in a nineteenth-century palace, while others celebrate their ceremony in a very modern location, while some organize a party on the beach.

Jill and Mark’s wedding is no exception. Let’s begin with the hotel the couple decided to book for the bride and groom preparation photos, the Standard Hotel of New York. We believe there is no need to present this fabulous 338-rooms resort that towers the High-Line because everyone in New York has certainly heard of it.

However, we will spend a few words on the interiors. All rooms of this resort feature floor to ceiling windows, from which you have a view of the city and the Hudson River. We loved this window because, besides allowing us to capture the panorama, it provided the perfect lighting to get some great shots of the bride while she was getting ready. The Standard Hotel suites are elegantly furnished, and the room, with its brown and white shades in contrast, it recalled somewhat an Austin Powers movie scene.

What made Jill and Mark’s special day even more particular is the location for the wedding itself. JIll and Mark love food, so they felt something traditional was not suitable for them.

Instead, they decided to opt for a restaurant wedding and host everything, from the ceremony to the reception in one of the finest dining restaurants, Colicchio and Sons.

The location, owned by celebrity chef Tom Colicchio, mixes rustic architecture of exposed brick and walnut hardwood floors with modern elements like comfortable leather sofas, geometric ceilings, and clever lighting design. Most likely, however, what catches the customers’ attention is the impressive selection of carefully selected wines, which occupies an entire wall.

Colicchio restaurant has a long tradition of hosting a variety of events, so the team was well trained to make things go smoothly. The ceremony, the cocktail party, and the reception, in fact, took place in different rooms, and all were differently styled for the occasion. The sweet end was the reception, which featured a tasting menu course meal with exceptional wine pairings.
