A + J and their Villa del Balbianello wedding
It is always a unique pleasure to receive a call to photograph a wedding or elopement in Italy, And the opportunity to work for this couple got even more intriguing when we discovered they intended to arrange a Lake Como elopement. Wondering why? For two reasons: for starters, setting the photo shoot by a lake makes things even more romantic. Second, here you can find some of the finest villas in the world. And trust us, if you are looking for a dramatic effect, a stylish mansion is what you need.
A + J started getting ready for their next chapter in life at Villa del Balbianello with a glass of Prosecco. Nothing better than some Italian bubbles to set the mood for this DOLCE VITA affair.
We shot this wedding in June, and early summer sunshine added to the incredible Lombardian scenery. The Italian villa A and J chose for their wedding, however, is an instantly recognizable setting that conjures emotions ranging from reverence for its historic preservation and awe for its idyllic location and breathtaking vistas.
Iconic films made at Villa del Balbianello include Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and the 2006 version of Casino Royale in the James Bond franchise. The building itself is set on the site of a former 13th-century Franciscan monastery. Though the two towers are all that remain of the original structure, the property has been meticulously maintained by various owners and stewards through the years. Notably, in 1787, it was converted into a villa, and the loggia was added to provide visitors with two unique panoramic views of Lake Como.
It is here, on the western shore of Lake Como, that A + J chose to commemorate their abiding love. What else can we say about this Villa del Balbianello wedding? The spectacular views, painstakingly manicured gardens, and lavish interiors provided the couple with many grand and beautiful settings for their wedding photos, each imbued with an eternal ambiance and a sense of dramatic flair to underscore their commitment.
