Remy and Brett’s elegant Rehearsal Dinner at the Surf Lodge

Are you a New Yorker who is dreaming of a summer ceremony? Then probably you already considered organizing your wedding in Montauk. Sure, a summer event in the Big Apple would be appreciated too, but if you get married on the sand when the thermometer hits 100 degrees °F, your friends will be happier. 

We are habitues of Montauk too. Yes, we have often been hired as photographers for the luxury weddings held at Gurney’s Montaul Resort and Seawater Spa and the Montauk Yacht Club, but we have been attending many other events as well. What was missing in our portfolio until recently, however, was a wedding photo shoot at the Surf Lodge. So, when Remy and Brett contacted us for their event, we were totally excited.

The Surf Lodge was born as an Irish bar, and you can tell right away. Looking at it from the outside, in fact, with its white walls, it looks just like a typical beach bar. But the interiors are thrilling: the light blue pavement, the wooden floor terrace that faces the lagune, the lamps in woven straw make this bar fashionable and cozy. We also love the Surf Lodge because its restaurant makes both continental and contemporary dishes, and they use fresh fish coming from Montauk Harbour fishman ships. 

The last images of this magic event, however, are the best. While the band played Bob Marley’s songs, people set up a Bonfire for the reception, and guests could roast and taste sweet marshmallows. Dulcis in Fundo, the Surf Lodge played a vintage movie on an outdoor screen by the beach. Heavenly!

On the night before the wedding Remy and Brett organized their informal and refreshing Rehearsal Dinner at Swallow East Restaurant. In this venue, casual and elegant elements mixed together, as buckets of Montauk brewery’s beer were served along with original signature cocktails. The event was enlivened by a grungy band who entertained with enthusiasm the entire evening.

We could not stop smiling about the nice contrasts that we found in the venue, and made the event memorable. An example? The contrast among the fishermen’s boats coming back after a long day and the speeches given in honor of the bride and groom.
